At Tiamo we don’t teach it, we just remind you of something you already knew. Tiamo is at the forefront of ecotourism, but that wasn’t the plan. Simply put, it wasn’t about being a “Sustainable,” or “eco,” resort, it was about finding a jaw-dropping, awe inspiring piece of land and wanting to keep it that way. Fortunately, we’ve found a way to do it, and have proven that we can create an environmentally conscientious tourism destination without sacrificing the comfort and quality of the guest experience.

There were many influences to build Tiamo as an environmentally sound destination. In fact, we’ve won several awards, and have had a large amount of media attention, for our “innovation and excellence.” But it was not ours alone. It was the influence between Mike and Petagay and a place they fell in love with. Their Influences included the ocean for being so heart-breakingly beautiful with its intricate web of underwater life.  Another influence included their six-month-old daughter who would inherit the world one day. Or the influence of the people they’ve met whose ancestors had lived on the island for ages.
