Frequently Asked Questions about Tiamo Resorts
Below is a list of common questions we often get from prospective guests of Tiamo. We’re more than happy to answer your questions directly, but we think these list of questions will be helpful for you.
Does Tiamo have power connection to the rest of South Andros Island?
No - Tiamo is 100% solar electric powered! Please make sure you take the Behind the Scenes tour of the property so you can see the "solar field".
What does this mean for us as guests?
You will find no difference to your holiday with the use of solar power. We ask you to please conserve energy by turning lights and ceiling fans off during the day when you are not in the bungalow - as you would in your own home. Tiamo's power supply is on 24hrs a day and the outlets are the same as the US (110volts) so not adapters are needed unless you are traveling from Europe.
TV’s?
Negative.
Telephones?
While we try as much as possible to remove all reminders of the modern world that you have escaped for a few days, we can of course let you contact home. The phone works on an honor system. With your help, we will estimate the charges and apply them to your room bill. Charges are based upon a rate of $2.00 per minute to the U.S. If you need to use it... the telephone is located at the bar - let one of the lodge staff know and they will provide it.
E-mail? Fax?
We are trying to keep you away from these things during your Bahamas vacation! If you must... we can send a fax. And in only the most dire of situations (it better be good) we will send an e-mail for you - please write what you would like to send and we will insure that it gets to the address you provide via our resort e-mail account. We can not provide access to a computer... sorry.
What do you recommend that I bring on my Bahamas Vacation?
Tiamo Resort is located in a remote area of The Bahamas and while beautiful and serene, there are no conveniences near by such as drug stores or pharmacies. Considering this, here are a few items we suggest bringing with you:
- Good walking/hiking shoes for inland nature hikes
- Teva type sandals or water shoes
- Light weight long sleeve shirt and pants
- A lightweight rain jacket for quick tropical showers
- Insect repellent of your choice, aspirin, sunscreen, basic first aid
- Wetsuits are nice if you have one or want to rent one (but not a necessity) for the winter months. Average water temps in
- January and February are about 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
What is the temperature like on South Andros Island?
What is the proper attire for dinner?
Other tips:
- Pack light if you are using a charter service.
- We do not supply hairdryers as they consume a lot of power, but you are welcome to bring yours from home.
- You must have either your passport to travel to The Bahamas. No longer are birth certificates allowed for entry into the country.
What about medical issues? Is there a drugstore on the island?
While there are no drugstores on South Andros Island, there is a doctor and a small clinic. In addition, we have our own first aid equipment and most of our staff is trained in basic first aid and CPR. For any serious medical emergencies, we rely on air ambulance back to hospitals in Nassau or the U.S., for which we would need access to your insurance information. As a precaution, please let a member of your party or our staff know where this information can be obtained in the event of an accident.
Are laundry services available?
Where does the water come from - is it safe to drink?
The water is fine to drink, however as it is a natural well it does have a slight color due to tannin in the surrounding vegetation. This water is in your sink and shower faucets but all your drinking water is run through a reverse osmosis system so it is purified just like bottled water. This water is refilled daily in the pitchers in your bungalow so we don't have all those plastic water bottles for sale.
