Sustainable Tourism
Guilt-free, eco-chic living is no problem at Tiamo, where nature and the environment rules. Set among tropical palm groves right on the white seashore, many of our cottages are cooled by sea breezes and powered by the sun. Firm ecological principles underpin everything we do to ensure minimal disruption to the natural world with forward-thinking, ingenious use of natural resources. All ten cottages are built from sustainable pine and raised on stilts with wraparound verandahs to maximise natural ventilation and cooling. The thatch used on the roofs provides great natural insulation, moderating temperatures and was lovingly collected locally by church members and the children of South Andros.

Our cottages are screened for shade and privacy by mature trees and tropical lush planting. Almost all the energy used at Tiamo is generated on site by solar panels and a combination of reclaimed glass and driftwood are used throughout the resort. The resort's plentiful hot water is heated by direct sunlight. We are currently exploring the use of wind power at Tiamo as another form of sustainable energy resource. Its use will be another first for Tiamo as a leading eco resort. We grow in our organic kitchen garden fresh fruit, vegetables and salad for the resort. When bought in, produce is sourced locally wherever possible.

Tiamo has fast become the first choice for eco-travellers with a taste for real barefoot luxury. Chic eco-warriors here prefer a batik kaftan and a hammock to a hair shirt. Sure, you may leave with all your plastic packed ready for recycling, but the vibe is cool, relaxed and subtly indulgent. You will find that knowing the resort’s eco-credentials are unquestionable simply adds to the pleasure of your experience.
